PMP® Formula
Communication Channels
As a project team grows, complexity grows exponentially. Use this formula to determine the number of potential communication paths between stakeholders.
The Formula
Channels = N(N - 1) / 2
Where N = Total Number of Stakeholders
Key Concepts
- Exponential Growth: A small increase in team size leads to a massive jump in complexity.
- Who is 'N'? 'N' represents everyone who communicates, including the Project Manager, team, and sponsors.
💡 PMP® Exam Tip
If a question says "10 team members and a project manager," don't use 10!
N = 11 (10 members + 1 PM).
