Lesson 1.01. Welcome & Course Overview

Welcome & Course Overview

Adaptive delivery in practice — building the ‘Heart of Harmony’ Digital Platform

Welcome. This is Noor, and I’m glad you’re here. You’ve arrived at this block for one of two reasons — and it serves both.

You’re heading for Scrum.org certification

This block prepares you for PSM I, and through the Product Owner Track, PSPO I. Every lesson is written to the Scrum Guide 2020 — exact wording, current definitions, and the traps those exams actually test.

You’re building adaptive & hybrid capability

Perhaps for the PMP® exam, where adaptive and hybrid approaches dominate the content — or because your organization runs both traditional and agile work. This block is the adaptive half of your project-management practice.

Why one block serves both. The PMBOK® Guide — Eighth Edition is deliberately approach-agnostic: it describes a spectrum of development approaches and treats Scrum as the canonical example of the adaptive end. So learning Scrum properly is learning adaptive delivery. Where the two vocabularies differ — and they do in a handful of places — this block always teaches the Scrum Guide wording and flags PMI’s term in a PMBOK® 8 Lens note. You finish fluent in both.

Living the Framework ⭐

Forget conventional textbook learning. We’re not just going to talk about adaptive delivery; we’re going to practise it. Throughout this block you step into a real-world case: the creation of the ‘Heart of Harmony’ Community Center Digital Platform for the community of Mahres. This isn’t a story — it’s our project, and you are part of its team.

Together we’ll work step-by-step through the framework. You’ll see, analyze and understand:

  • 👥 The three accountabilities — Product Owner, Scrum Master, Developers — and how self-managing, cross-functional teams actually operate.
  • 📅 How the events create a delivery cadence: Sprint Planning, the Daily Scrum, the Sprint Review, the Sprint Retrospective.
  • 📦 The purpose of the artifacts and their commitments — the Product Backlog (Product Goal), the Sprint Backlog (Sprint Goal), the Increment (Definition of Done).
  • ⚖️ The foundations underneath it all: the adaptive spectrum, agility, Lean thinking, empiricism, and the five Scrum Values.
  • ❓ And crucially, the ‘why nots’ — why a fixed Sprint length? why does the Scrum Master facilitate rather than direct? We connect every rule back to principle, which is what turns memorization into judgement.

The Commitment to Excellence

This block is intensive by design and demands focused engagement. It’s built for impact — to take you from beginner to someone who can pass a demanding certification and apply adaptive delivery confidently in a complex environment.

Ready to build a platform that serves a community, and become genuinely capable in adaptive project delivery? Let’s start with the map: where Scrum sits in the wider world of project approaches.
